Installing and using Legenda

Need help with a problem or your licence? Contact support.

Installation

The current beta is installed from the ZIP supplied with your access. A Chrome Web Store installation link will be added after the store review is complete.

  1. Unzip the Legenda ZIP supplied with your access into a folder you will keep on your computer.
  2. Open chrome://extensions in desktop Chrome and turn on Developer mode.
  3. Choose Load unpacked and select the folder containing manifest.json.
  4. Open Legenda’s extension options and choose your language.
  5. Read the data-processing notice, enter your personal licence key and select Activate. Check that your access expiry date appears.
  6. Reload an already-open video tab, select a Portuguese caption track and turn on Legenda.

You do not need your own AI API key. Keep the unpacked extension folder in place. Repeated fresh installations can use additional licence activations; contact support if you reach the activation limit.

Captions

Check that the video has a subtitle track and that captions are selected in the player. Legenda works with available captions; it does not generate captions from audio. Reload the video after installing or updating the extension.

Look up words on web pages

Select a word or a short phrase in normal page text, then click the small L button beside the selection. Legenda shows a translation and an explanation using the surrounding sentence. Press Escape to close it.

In the extension popup, turn on Translate words on web pages. By default, lookup is limited to pages in your learning language. If a page has no language set, or its language does not match, turn off only on pages in the learning language to use lookup there.

Choose up to four words at a time. Lookup works with selectable page text, not text inside images or editable fields. In video subtitles, hover over a word instead of selecting it.

Supported browsers

Legenda is built for desktop Chrome and compatible Chromium browsers. The current beta includes YouTube and Stremio Web. Streaming-service desktop and TV apps are outside this browser extension. Availability of a caption track depends on the video and service.

Anki

Anki export is optional and off by default. To use it, run Anki Desktop with the AnkiConnect add-on on the same computer, then enable Anki in Legenda’s settings.

Beta access and billing

Access is currently arranged directly. If you have a Lemon Squeezy order, your personal licence key is in the order and receipt. A paid beta licence provides 30 days from purchase for a single payment of €4.99, with no subscription or automatic renewal and up to five activations. Private invitation access may have a different expiry date; the extension shows your access expiry after activation.

The Legenda service allows 300 requests per licence per UTC day. One feature action can trigger several requests, such as translating a longer transcript. For access, billing or refund questions, contact support@getlegenda.de with your order reference and without payment-card details or your full licence key.
